Alumni Success Stories:
Gabriel was our 14th adoption. Here is a picture of his whole family coming to pick him up. Esme, Garbiel's four-and-a-half year old sister from Chongqing, thought she would be able to carry him around. Little did she know that Gabriel weighed only eight pounds less than she did.
Our 13th adoption was Nathaniel/Will going to his new family in Ohio!  Will is the fourth Starfish baby to go to Ohio.  Will now has two siblings -- Griffin, age 10 and Karli, age 14. Will is such an affectionate little boy and was hugging all his Starfish girlfriends goodbye upon leaving the home in Xi’an.
Jeannie/Anne Celine was adopted by a wonderful Norwegian family. She celebrated her second birthday with 21 family members!  Both grandmas expressed their gratitude toward Starfish and Amanda for their beautiful grandchild.
Jasmine/Megan is home with her family in Illinois.  She has an older sister, Carly. Megan loves playing with all her toys and trying on shoes!   She has a couple of pairs of princess slippers and she walks around the house wearing them while pushing a baby doll stroller.
Rachel was born with ASD and VSD. Dr Li did such an amazing job with her surgery that the cardiologists in Holland declared her healthy. She was adopted by a family from Holland in november 2008 and has one older brother, also from China. Rachel is now called Norah and is a real girly girl and only wants to wear dresses!

Erica was adopted in february 2009 by an American family. She was born with spina bifida. Her new name is Norma Xian. Her mother wrote this february 2010: "Norma is a major trooper. She is determined and focused and that has shown through in all the work she has done to walk and to talk. Norma uses a walker until she is able to gain better balance which will come with time... And she is so verbal, especially when it comes time for ice cream and cookies! She is learning her A, B, C's, and counts all by herself to 10."

Medical Success Stories:

The mission of Starfish is to save disabled, abandoned babies in China--many times from certain death.  Here are the success stories from some of our babies' surgeries.

Lucas: Six-month-old Lucas underwent surgery for an exposed bladder. He is such a good baby and sleeps very well.
Emily: Our cool-as-a-cucumber Emily was operated on for a very large teratoma (a type of tumor) .  Dr. Wu of Shanghai’s Children Hospital performed the successful operation.  Truly, it was one of the most exhausting trips for our fearless leader, Amanda.  She was there with Emily for 44 days – the longest surgery trip in Starfish history.  It was a tough surgery and it took six hours, but Emily went through it brilliantly.  She is now adopted.

Erica: Baby Erica underwent surgery for her spina bifida in October 2007 with Dr. Bao in Shanghai. As you can see, she is now a bright, happy, healthy little girl.  Erica is now adopted.
Breanna: Breanna had a hole in her heart due to a condition known as VSD.  Dr. Li performed her surgery, and she hardly cried through the whole ordeal.  She was just so happy to be held by anyone.  She is now adopted.
